Toppling furniture: safety information requirements
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Furniture within the information standard's categories, assessed by its type, dimensions and intended use.
Requirements
Provide the prescribed warnings on the product, at the online/in-store point of sale and in the instructions, including applicable anchoring information.
Required Evidence
Keep category and dimensional assessment, label artwork, product photographs, installation instructions and actual sales-page evidence.
Comparison for the Awards
Warning compliance is a baseline information duty. A better mechanical stability claim requires its own applicable benchmark and test evidence.
Version & Transition
Mandatory from 4 May 2025. The ACCC's November 2025 surveillance findings confirm that online point-of-sale information is part of the obligation.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
