Bicycle helmets: accepted test routes
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Helmets for bicycle riding and covered recreational use; motorcycle, toy and specified competition-only helmets are outside this instrument.
Requirements
The instrument permits six listed routes, including specified editions of AS/NZS 2063, EN 1078, US CPSC, ASTM and Snell. Apply one route with its construction, impact, retention and marking provisions; road-use law remains state/territory specific.
Required Evidence
Submit complete specialist-laboratory results, helmet size/headform range, conditioning, impact and retention details and instructions.
Comparison for the Awards
Compare only within the same route and test conditions. Results from different impact methods cannot be ranked by raw numbers alone.
Version & Transition
Use the precise editions listed in the 2024 instrument; the latest publication from a standards body is not automatically the accepted route.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
