AU · Consumer Goods (Care Labelling) Information Standard 2023
Care information for regulated clothing and textiles
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Covered clothing, household textiles, upholstered furnishings, bedding and other specified textile goods. Bags/cases and most footwear are excluded, as are several other expressly listed goods.
Requirements
Provide the prescribed care instructions using an accepted written or symbol route. Care wording must correspond to the product materials and actual treatment limitations.
Required Evidence
Retain composition, label placement and artwork, and testing or technical support for the stated care treatment.
Comparison for the Awards
A care label is not a safety certification. Durability or colour-fastness claims need their own method and a legally relevant comparison before being described as above regulation.
Version & Transition
Use the 2023 instrument and its incorporated symbol standard; do not apply the superseded 2010 instrument indiscriminately.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
