AU · WELS Determination (No. 2); AS/NZS 6400:2016
Water efficiency: taps, showers and other WELS products
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Specified taps, personal-bathing showers, toilets, urinals, separately supplied flow controllers, household dishwashers and clothes washers. Exclusions depend on the product; bidet, bath-only and thermostatic taps are not automatically included.
Requirements
Testing, rating and labelling follow AS/NZS 6400:2016 and its product-specific references. Performance and water use must be assessed together; separate outlets in combination showers need the required individual information.
Required Evidence
Use a NATA-accredited laboratory or an affiliated international body with the necessary test in scope. Retain complete reports and registration; plumbing products also need valid WaterMark certification for WELS registration.
Comparison for the Awards
Lower water consumption must retain the specified function under the same pressure and test method. A low-flow number without the functional results is insufficient.
Version & Transition
The regulator continues to identify AS/NZS 6400:2016; its label guidance was updated in June 2026. Registration and label details must match the supplied configuration.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
