Children’s clothing and accessories: lead
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Covered mouth-contact products, clothing/accessories intended for children under 14 and other specifically defined products.
Requirements
Each accessible part generally must not exceed 90 mg/kg lead when tested using good laboratory practices. The narrow exception requires all specified conditions, including essential function, no alternative and the release criterion.
Required Evidence
Product-age classification, accessible-part inventory, component-level results and any documented exception.
Comparison for the Awards
Compare total lead against the actual applicable limit with detection/quantification limits; a mixed whole-product result may conceal a noncompliant part.
Version & Transition
Do not substitute the US 100 ppm children’s-product limit for Canada’s 90 mg/kg requirement, or apply this rule to every adult bag.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
