External power supplies: Canadian energy performance
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Defined direct/indirect-operation, single/multiple-voltage external power supplies; specific medical, charging and lighting exclusions apply.
Requirements
Select active-efficiency/no-load limits by output type, voltage, power and date. NRCan lists CSA C381.1-08, C381.1-17 or applicable US Appendix Z methods. Verification and reporting remain required; the efficiency-marking alternative has conditions.
Required Evidence
Classification, nameplate, load-point/no-load test data, certification-body verification, exact model and NRCan submission.
Comparison for the Awards
Compare both efficiency and no-load power against the applicable Canadian row. US marking alone does not prove Canadian reporting or superior performance.
Version & Transition
NRCan identifies different manufacturing dates for direct, indirect, replacement and security supplies; confirm the correct date branch.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
