Federal workplaces: protective equipment and machine guards
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Federally regulated workplaces; provincial workplaces require their own occupational-safety legislation.
Requirements
Part XII specifies protective-equipment duties, including protective footwear where risks exist and the referenced CSA Z195 requirements. Part XIII contains machine-guard requirements. These are employer/use duties and do not establish one nationwide premarket certificate for all PPE or machines.
Required Evidence
Workplace jurisdiction, hazard assessment, exact referenced standard/edition, protective class, complete report and machine/guard configuration.
Comparison for the Awards
Compare the specific tested protection criterion; a higher claim requires a valid applicable baseline and cannot be inferred from “CSA compliant” wording.
Version & Transition
The source lists separate requirements for PPE and guards. Check the current incorporated edition and the correct federal/provincial jurisdiction.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
