CA · Off-Road Small Spark-Ignition Engine Emission Regulations SOR/2003-355
Small off-road engines: Canadian air-emission controls
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Covered small spark-ignition engines used in lawn/garden, small industrial and logging equipment.
Requirements
Classify the engine/model year and apply the required exhaust and related emission standards, evidence of conformity, labels and import/manufacturer obligations. US EPA certification may be part of an eligible evidence route but does not remove Canadian conditions.
Required Evidence
Engine family/model-year, applicable class, duty-cycle results, eligible certificate/conformity file and Canadian labels/import records.
Comparison for the Awards
Compare the same pollutant, applicable limit and duty cycle. A whole-tool power rating is not an exhaust-emission measurement.
Version & Transition
Current consolidated regulation was last amended 4 June 2021 at the verified source; upcoming proposals must remain separate.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
