Tents: flammability and fire-safety labelling
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Products meeting the current tent definition; children’s play tents must be classified separately under the Toys Regulations.
Requirements
Meet the incorporated tent flammability and labelling requirements. Health Canada identifies CAN/CGSB-182.1-2025 as the referenced safety standard following its April 2025 publication; the 2025 changes are described as editorial.
Required Evidence
Tent definition/use, floor/wall/roof material identity, complete test report, method edition and required fire-safety labels.
Comparison for the Awards
A superior flammability claim needs comparable test results; adding flame-retardant chemicals alone is not evidence of superior performance.
Version & Transition
The 2024 regulation replaced the former tents rules. Its standard is dynamically incorporated; later amendments and compliance periods must be checked.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
