Composite wood: CANFER formaldehyde controls
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Specified composite panels, laminated products and finished goods containing them, including furniture and flooring.
Requirements
CANFER sets panel-type emission limits, testing, third-party certification, labelling and records. Finished goods must use compliant certified panels where required. A TSCA label has specified Canadian recognition conditions; it does not remove all Canadian obligations.
Required Evidence
Panel certification, chamber/QC results, certifier eligibility, panel-to-finished-good traceability and Canadian labels/records.
Comparison for the Awards
Compare lower formaldehyde only within the applicable panel category and recognised method. A US compliance statement alone is not a Canadian superiority finding.
Version & Transition
Restrictions apply from 7 January 2023. Proposed-amendment notices and the consolidated effective regulation must be distinguished.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
