Food-contact materials: general, material and migration requirements
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Food-contact articles, coatings, inks, adhesives and packaging assessed by every relevant contact layer and use condition.
Requirements
Combine general safety, the applicable material standard, ingredient restrictions and migration-testing principles. Metal, plastic, rubber, paper, composite and silicone materials do not share one universal test panel. For multilayer products retain the contact layer and migration pathways.
Required Evidence
Provide controlled composition, intended food/time/temperature/reuse, full material and migration reports, traceable samples and conformity information.
Comparison for the Awards
A compliant resin declaration cannot replace testing of the finished article where required. Lower migration must be measured under the same relevant conditions and analytical limits.
Version & Transition
The NHC catalogue published in January 2026 lists GB 4806.1-2016 and material-specific updates including GB 4806.10-2025 and GB 4806.16-2025. A catalogue entry is not proof that every new provision is already applicable; verify each standard's implementation date.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
