Footwear: general safety and children's safety
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Footwear within the general safety standard and infant/children's footwear within its separate technical specification. Protective footwear requires additional specialised assessment.
Requirements
Determine age and product/material scope, then assess physical hazards and applicable restricted chemicals. The 2024 revisions broaden scope and introduce or strengthen chemical and component requirements.
Required Evidence
Provide the finished-shoe construction, materials and accessories, complete mechanical/chemical reports and age/marking information.
Comparison for the Awards
Higher abrasion resistance does not replace chemical or attachment safety. Compare the actual applicable limit and material with the relevant method.
Version & Transition
Both 2024 standards became effective on 1 June 2025; do not continue applying the superseded 2010/2014 editions without a justified date-specific basis.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
