Furniture: harmful substances and structural safety
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Furniture within the general requirements, with infant/children's furniture separately assessed for the relevant age and product type.
Requirements
Separate harmful substances, general structural safety and children's special requirements. Materials, joints, edges, moving parts, stability and warnings must be considered for the actual furniture type; a chemical pass alone does not cover the whole product.
Required Evidence
Provide whole-product and material identities, full relevant chemical/structural reports, assembly and warning information and age classification where applicable.
Comparison for the Awards
Use the correct emission/material and structural test basis for each claimed advantage; do not combine unrelated results into a universal quality percentage.
Version & Transition
GB 18584-2024 became effective on 1 July 2025, replacing the older wood/plastic furniture harmful-substance standards. SAMR's furniture release explains the separate general and children's safety roles.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
