Energy-storage lithium cells and batteries
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Secondary lithium cells and batteries used in electrical energy-storage systems within the standard's scope. The cell/battery boundary differs from the complete installation.
Requirements
Identify chemistry, cell/battery configuration and intended energy-storage application and apply the relevant safety requirements. System, installation, fire and transport obligations require separate linkage.
Required Evidence
Provide exact cell/battery identities, full applicable safety reports, protection/control information and the system boundary used in testing.
Comparison for the Awards
Higher energy density is not inherently safer. A margin must concern an applicable criterion without compromising other required safety outcomes.
Version & Transition
Effective 1 August 2025; the official record lists the standard as current.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
