Textile safety: use category and children's requirements
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Covered wearing, decorative and household textiles; infant/children's products additionally require their specific scope and safety conditions.
Requirements
Classify by intended age and skin contact, then determine chemical, colour-fastness and other applicable requirements. Children's attachments, cords, sharp parts and residual needles require separate product assessment rather than fabric chemistry alone.
Required Evidence
Provide final-product component/colour sampling, full relevant reports, method editions, use/age category and required durable information.
Comparison for the Awards
A non-detect result needs the analytical reporting limit. A favourable pH value is not automatically 'higher' because pH is a permitted interval, not a one-direction score.
Version & Transition
The official system lists GB 18401-2010 as current; 2026 local supervision schedules continue to identify GB 31701-2015 and product-specific method editions.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
