Radio equipment in Great Britain
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Equipment intentionally transmitting or receiving radio waves for communication or radiodetermination. Final-product configuration, antennas, operating bands and the intended jurisdiction determine the assessment; module-level evidence is supporting evidence only.
Requirements
Assess health and safety without the LVD voltage threshold, electromagnetic compatibility and effective spectrum use. Confirm UK frequency permissions and any applicable interface conditions; distinguish technical product conformity from permission to use spectrum. Connected consumer products may independently trigger PSTI security obligations.
Required Evidence
Provide RF/exposure/EMC/safety reports for the final device, antenna and firmware identity, declaration, marking, instructions and restrictions. Verify the conformity route and body requirement if standards do not fully support the applicable route; body designation must cover the actual task.
Comparison for the Awards
Lower unwanted emissions or better relevant performance can be considered only under the legal measurement conditions. Higher RF power cannot be treated as higher quality when it approaches or exceeds a regulatory ceiling.
Version & Transition
Use the GB text and recognised conformity route. NI follows relevant EU radio rules; EU RED cybersecurity transition dates must not be silently applied as identical GB law. PSTI scope is also assessed separately.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
