JP · Building Standard Act; formaldehyde-emitting material notifications and recognised grades
Interior building materials: formaldehyde and use restrictions
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Listed formaldehyde-emitting interior materials, including relevant wood-based panels and finishes. Material emission classification and the building's permitted use are distinct.
Requirements
Identify whether the material is listed, its recognised JIS/JAS or ministerial approval route, and the permitted interior application. An F-star grade is not a blanket approval for fire, structural or every chemical requirement.
Required Evidence
Provide the exact material/finish specification, emission test and recognised classification/approval, plus the assembly and intended location.
Comparison for the Awards
Compare emissions under the accepted method and area/use assumptions. Do not translate a material's grade into a universal percentage above building regulation.
Version & Transition
MLIT identifies F☆☆☆☆ listed materials as outside the specified emission-use restrictions; this does not remove unrelated building obligations. Follow the current legal instrument for the project.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
