JP · Household Goods Quality Labeling Act and product-specific labelling provisions
Household goods: product-specific quality labelling
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Only listed household goods, including specified textile goods, furniture, shoes, leather bags, kitchen utensils, sunglasses and household chemical products. Material and construction definitions limit each listing.
Requirements
Identify the actual product provision rather than applying one universal label. Composition, dimensions, performance, care, precautions and the responsible labeler are required according to the relevant category.
Required Evidence
Retain the final Japanese label, identity/contact details, composition and measurement records and evidence supporting any performance values stated.
Comparison for the Awards
Accurate labelling is an information duty. A displayed performance figure is not evidence that the product exceeds a regulatory performance limit where no such limit applies.
Version & Transition
CAA's current product index and 2024 amendments must be checked. The 2026 administration report does not itself replace the category's technical labelling provisions.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
