Electrical products: PSE scope and technical routes
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Electrical products actually listed under the Act, including specified and non-specified categories. The household appliance, power supply, lamp, tool or battery definition must be confirmed individually.
Requirements
Identify the listed item and supplier role, then use a complete accepted technical interpretation. Japan-specific requirements remain part of the assessment; an IEC CB report alone is not a complete PSE route. Specified products require the applicable registered conformity-assessment body's involvement; inspection obligations also apply.
Required Evidence
Provide classification, notification, technical route, national differences, full reports and inspection records, plus the required conformity certificate and marking for the category.
Comparison for the Awards
A PSE mark shows a regulatory route, not superior quality. Identify a measurable applicable criterion before asserting a margin above it.
Version & Transition
The METI English supplementary page lists 116 specified and 341 non-specified items, but current Japanese instruments control later amendments. Technical interpretations and transition dates must be retained with the report.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
