AU · Industrial Chemicals Act 2019; AICIS introduction requirements
Industrial chemicals in coatings, adhesives and cleaning products
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Imported or manufactured industrial chemicals, including ingredients of coatings, adhesives, printing and cleaning products. A finished article needs an article/release assessment rather than automatic treatment as a chemical mixture.
Requirements
Identify the introducer, chemical identity, Inventory status and authorised introduction category. Different uses can invoke additional regulators; AICIS registration is not a finished-product safety approval.
Required Evidence
Retain composition and identity evidence, use/exposure conditions, Inventory or authorisation record and required introduction reports/declarations.
Comparison for the Awards
An Inventory listing is an entry condition, not evidence of lower emissions or better product quality. Those claims require a relevant benchmark and product-level testing.
Version & Transition
Use current listing terms and restrictions for the actual chemical. AICIS maintains separate risk assessments, Inventory entries and recommendations.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
