Infant sleep products: 2026 safety and information rules
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Infant sleep products and the separately defined inclined non-sleep products. A bouncer or rocker marketed for play is not assessed through the same scope as an infant bed.
Requirements
Apply the safety requirements to the covered sleep product and the information requirements to the products specified in that instrument. Check the actual sleep claim, surface, restraint and intended age.
Required Evidence
Retain full structural and applicable surface tests, intended-use assessment, warnings, instructions and sales representations.
Comparison for the Awards
Marketing a product as safe for sleep is not an alternative to the defined tests. Superior performance must be measured against the applicable product requirement.
Version & Transition
Both mandatory instruments commenced application on 19 January 2026; earlier voluntary practice is not a substitute for the new obligations.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
