Electronic displays: energy use and resource efficiency
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Televisions, monitors and digital-signage displays within the definitions and exemptions. Scope depends on the display function and configuration; a separately testable incorporated screen can be covered. Computer requirements do not automatically replace monitor requirements.
Requirements
Use the prescribed on-mode energy-efficiency calculation and the applicable screen parameters and date tier. Assess standby/networked-standby and off modes, automatic power-management, material and dismantling information and the required energy label. SDR/HDR and default configuration must be identified rather than selecting a favourable mode without disclosure.
Required Evidence
Provide full power measurements and calculation inputs, screen area, resolution, firmware/default settings, automatic brightness conditions, label/product sheet and required EPREL entry. Keep original measurement units and report conditions alongside any consumer explanation.
Comparison for the Awards
Lower power is comparable only at equivalent legal measurement conditions and display function. Brighter output or more pixels are not substitutes for meeting the energy limit; an energy class is not a complete picture-quality assessment.
Version & Transition
The ecodesign regime applies from 1 March 2021 with later tiers and amendments. Use the version applicable to the actual placing-on-market date and distinguish the labelling act from the minimum-performance act.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
