Light sources and control gear: efficiency and function
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Light sources and separate control gear within the definitions; distinguish a light source from a containing product. Luminaires do not generally carry their former energy label, but some integrated luminaires meet the light-source definition themselves.
Requirements
Calculate the permitted on-mode power or efficiency using the applicable formula and factors; assess relevant standby, colour rendering, flicker/stroboscopic effects, lumen maintenance, survival and information requirements. LED performance, directional status and control technology affect the applicable conditions; one universal lm/W threshold would be misleading.
Required Evidence
Provide photometric and electrical reports, sphere/goniophotometer conditions where applicable, rated inputs, endurance tests, declarations and required label/product sheet and EPREL registration. Containing-product documents must identify the incorporated source and applicable replacement information.
Comparison for the Awards
Compare efficiency or functional performance under the same prescribed conditions while all applicable functional requirements remain satisfied. Higher luminous flux alone is not superiority to a power-based or glare-related requirement.
Version & Transition
Main measures apply from 1 September 2021, with later functional tiers and amendments. Apply current Annex conditions and exemptions; the A–G label is not the same as the legal minimum-efficiency calculation.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
