Pressure equipment and assemblies
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Pressure equipment and assemblies with maximum allowable pressure PS greater than 0.5 bar, subject to detailed exclusions and product boundaries. Pressure cookers, vessels, piping, safety accessories and assemblies are not assigned the same conformity category.
Requirements
Classify by equipment type, fluid group, PS and volume or nominal size under the Annex II tables. Apply essential safety requirements, appropriate material qualification, permanent joining, inspection and final assessment. Equipment below the categorisation thresholds can follow sound engineering practice and must not receive a PED CE mark solely on that basis.
Required Evidence
Provide design calculations, material certificates, joining procedures/personnel qualifications, non-destructive examinations, pressure/final tests, instructions and the correct module certificate where required. Verify notified-body or recognised third-party organisation scope for the specific task.
Comparison for the Awards
Pressure resistance must be evaluated within design temperature, fluid, fatigue and safety assumptions. A larger burst pressure alone does not demonstrate a proportionate safety improvement or justify operation beyond the declared allowable pressure.
Version & Transition
Applies from 19 July 2016. Check amendments, current harmonised specifications and the applicable conformity category for the actual product; transportable pressure equipment has a separate regime.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
