UK REACH restrictions and GB chemical classification
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Articles, substances and mixtures trigger different requirements. Identify GB or NI, actual chemical identity, material, contact scenario and professional/consumer use. Finished textiles, footwear and plastics often require restriction screening, while paints and adhesives can additionally require mixture classification and labels.
Requirements
GB UK REACH has its own restrictions, authorisation and registration system; EU changes do not automatically update it. NI continues EU REACH. Under GB CLP, assess the applicable mandatory classification and mixture rules, hazard labels and packaging. A GB safety data sheet or a REACH registration is not official approval of every end product.
Required Evidence
Provide restriction-entry and jurisdiction mapping, composition, part-specific analytical reports and conditions, supplier data and valid exemptions. For mixtures provide classification calculations, SDS where required, label and packaging evidence. Verify the laboratory’s relevant methods without misrepresenting HSE as a blanket product-certification issuer.
Comparison for the Awards
Only compare a substance concentration or release with the actual GB/NI restriction and same method. Fewer pictograms, a registration number or Candidate List communication compliance is not inherently an above-regulatory quality result.
Version & Transition
Check current HSE restriction and classification notices for GB and ECHA/EUR-Lex for NI. The EU formaldehyde entry 77 and other newer EU changes must not be assumed to have the same GB application date.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
