JP · Consumer Product Safety Act: specified products and technical criteria
PSC for riding helmets, climbing ropes and pressure cookers
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
The legally defined motorcycle/moped helmets, body-securing mountaineering ropes and household pressure cookers. An ordinary bicycle helmet or general-purpose rope is not automatically the same product.
Requirements
Match the product to its definition and technical criteria, complete the applicable supplier notification and inspection obligations and use the correct PSC marking.
Required Evidence
Provide full product-specific reports, classification evidence, inspection records, instructions and required markings.
Comparison for the Awards
Different protective or pressure tests are not interchangeable. An extra test only supports a regulatory margin when its criterion and conditions correspond.
Version & Transition
The current METI procedure guide and 2026 regional guidance distinguish these specified categories from special and children's specified products.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
