Protective & Professional Products · Japan

Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.

Jurisdiction & Product Scope

Determine the Japanese manufacturer or importer’s legal role and the exact listed product type. Registered conformity-assessment bodies, radio certification bodies and accredited laboratories serve different purposes; their current category and technical scope must match the work actually performed.

Market-specific Review

  • For PSE, identify the listed item, the applicable technical route and whether a registered body is required; a CB report alone is insufficient.
  • For wireless functions, verify the actual radio specifications, technical conformity records and marking route rather than relying on a foreign radio certificate.
  • For food-contact products, trace materials, additives and intended use to the positive list and applicable migration requirements.
  • Retain model correspondence, inspection records and Japanese instructions or labels; check PSC, household-goods labelling and energy rules where relevant.

Regulatory Basis

JP · Consumer Product Safety Act: specified products and technical criteria

PSC for riding helmets, climbing ropes and pressure cookers

The legally defined motorcycle/moped helmets, body-securing mountaineering ropes and household pressure cookers. An ordinary bicycle helmet or general-purpose rope is not automatically the same product.

JP · Standard for Industrial Safety Helmets, MHLW Notification No. 66 of 1975, as amended

Industrial safety helmets: structure, performance and type examination

Industrial helmets used for the defined falling/flying-object and fall-impact hazards; distinguish the protection class from riding and sports helmets.

Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
