External power supplies: efficiency and no-load power
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
External power supplies meeting DOE definitions; direct/indirect operation, voltage class and exceptions determine the applicable row.
Requirements
Select the correct active-efficiency and no-load limits from 430.32(w), then test under Appendix Z. Power rating, output configuration and manufacturing date matter. Part 429 separately governs sampling, representations, certification and records.
Required Evidence
Nameplate, product-class rationale, loading-point data, no-load data, sampling/rating calculation and DOE certification records.
Comparison for the Awards
Higher efficiency and lower no-load consumption must be evaluated separately against the correct class and test conditions; a Level VI marking alone does not quantify the margin.
Version & Transition
Use the standards applicable to the unit’s manufacturing date; do not treat notices or planned rulemakings as current compliance limits.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
