General service lamps: efficacy
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
General service lamps as legally defined; this is not a universal requirement for every luminaire or specialised lamp.
Requirements
Determine the lamp’s legal classification and applicable efficacy requirement. Testing follows 430.23(gg), with the applicable lamp procedure; Part 429 applies to certified representations. The 2024 amended standards identified by DOE have a later compliance date.
Required Evidence
Lamp shape/base, voltage, light output, input power, efficacy, method version and certified-rating records.
Comparison for the Awards
Compare lm/W under the same regulated method; colour rendering, life and luminaire performance require their own evidence.
Version & Transition
DOE identifies 25 July 2028 as the compliance date for its 2024 amended GSL standards. Do not use that future threshold as the 2026 baseline without a separate legal basis.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
