Children’s sleepwear: garment-level flammability
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Sleepwear above nine months through size 14; qualifying infant and tight-fitting garments follow different provisions.
Requirements
Classify intended sleeping use before testing. Parts 1615 and 1616 contain sleepwear-specific testing, sampling, laundering and production requirements; testing fabric alone does not demonstrate compliant finished garments.
Required Evidence
Size/design classification, fabric and seam/trim prototypes, production-garment test records, laundering conditions, CPC and labels.
Comparison for the Awards
A shorter char length is comparable only within the same sleepwear method and sample plan. All production requirements must still be met.
Version & Transition
Distinguish 0–6X from 7–14 and document the specific infant/tight-fitting exclusion if claimed.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
