Garden and small industrial engines: air emissions
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Covered small nonroad spark-ignition engines and associated equipment/fuel systems, including garden equipment.
Requirements
Select exhaust and evaporative requirements by engine class, power, displacement, model year and equipment configuration. EPA certification, labels and production compliance apply where required; California can have a separate applicable route.
Required Evidence
Engine family certificate, model-year/class basis, duty-cycle emissions report, fuel-system records and label photographs.
Comparison for the Awards
Compare pollutant-specific results under the prescribed cycle and applicable certification basis; low emissions for one pollutant cannot offset failure on another.
Version & Transition
Current federal rules and actual model year control; do not apply an old phase table to every engine or treat a future proposal as final.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
