Clothing textiles: flammability
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
General wearing apparel, with specific exclusions and testing exemptions; children’s sleepwear requires separate classification.
Requirements
Dangerously flammable Class 3 textiles are prohibited. Fabric construction and surface type determine test evaluation. Footwear not consisting of hosiery and not attached to a garment is excluded; exemption from testing does not remove the safety obligation.
Required Evidence
Fabric identity and weight, surface classification, before/after conditioning results, exemption rationale where used, and GCC or CPC as applicable.
Comparison for the Awards
Only compare burning behaviour under the same prescribed conditioning and method. A different fabric class is not itself a percentage improvement.
Version & Transition
Do not apply Part 1610 in place of Parts 1615/1616 when the garment is regulated children’s sleepwear.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
