Plumbing fixtures: water consumption
Identify the market and product category first. Each dossier separates legal duties, referenced standards, evidence and the comparison needed for an award.
Product Scope
Covered faucets, showerheads, water closets and urinals; fixture type and exclusions must be identified.
Requirements
Federal water-use limits and specified tests are product-specific. Faucets/showerheads use Appendix S; water closets/urinals use Appendix T. State requirements and applicable plumbing codes must be checked independently; WaterSense is a separate label programme.
Required Evidence
Exact fixture classification, pressure and flow/flush test data, settings/nozzles, certification records and destination-state matrix.
Comparison for the Awards
Less water is not automatically better: compare lower consumption while preserving every required functional criterion under the prescribed method.
Version & Transition
This entry establishes the federal product route; local limits and recent definition amendments require a product-specific check.
Official Sources
Applicability depends on the product classification, intended use, configuration and actual sales territory. Manufacturing, placing-on-the-market and testing dates, together with transition provisions, are checked as required by each applicable rule. The directory identifies sources; it does not replace assessment of the specific model. Standards are identified by reference, and their authoritative texts remain with the issuing bodies. Official source documents retain their original language.
